Mazda 3 Service Manual: Inspection After Manual Transaxle Overhaul [C66 M R]
1. After warming up the engine, drive the vehicle and inspect the following items:
a. No abnormal noise in each shift position.
b. Smooth shift operation when shifting gears.
c. No gear slipout after shifting gears.
d. Back-up light switch operates correctly.

1. Park the vehicle on level ground.
2. Remove the aerodynamic under cover No.2..
3. Remove the oil level plug and gasket.
Tightening torque
39—59 N·m {4.0—6.0 kgf·m, 29—43 ft·lbf}

Shift-Lock Override
If the selector lever will not move from P
using the proper shift procedure, continue
to hold down the brake pedal.
Remove the shift-lock override cover
using a cloth-wrapped flat head
screwdriver.
Insert a screwdriver and push it down.
Press and hold the lock-release button.
