Basic functions
In the Subaru Solterra, the Lane Departure Alert (LDA) system is designed to assist the driver by monitoring the vehicle’s position relative to lane markings or road boundaries*. When the system detects a potential deviation, it provides timely warnings and can also apply gentle steering input to help guide the Subaru Solterra back toward the intended path.
The Subaru Solterra uses a forward-facing camera to identify lane lines or road edges such as the boundary between asphalt and grass, soil, or fixed structures like curbs and guardrails.
*: Boundary between the asphalt and grass, soil, etc., or structures, such as a curb, guardrail, etc.
■ Lane departure alert function
When the Subaru Solterra determines that the vehicle may unintentionally leave its lane or course*, a warning is displayed on the instrument panel, accompanied by either an audible alert or steering wheel vibration to draw the driver’s attention.
When alerted, always check the surroundings and carefully steer the Subaru Solterra back toward the center of the lane or course.
If the system detects a risk of collision with a vehicle in an adjacent lane, the Subaru Solterra LDA alert will activate even if the turn signals are in use, prioritizing safety over driver input.
*: Boundary between the asphalt and grass, soil, etc., or structures, such as a curb, guardrail, etc.
■ Lane departure prevention function
If the Subaru Solterra detects that the vehicle is about to leave its lane or course*, it can provide corrective steering assistance to help maintain proper lane positioning.
If the system determines that the steering wheel has not been actively controlled or that the driver is not maintaining a firm grip, a warning message and buzzer may be activated to prompt driver intervention.
When there is a risk of collision with a vehicle in a neighboring lane, the Subaru Solterra lane departure prevention function may activate regardless of turn signal use.
*: Boundary between the asphalt and grass, soil, etc., or structures, such as a curb, guardrail, etc.
■ Break suggestion function
The Subaru Solterra is equipped with a fatigue detection feature that monitors vehicle movement patterns. If irregular swaying or unstable driving is detected, a message and warning sound will advise the driver to take a break.
WARNING
■ Before using the LDA system
The driver must remain fully attentive to road conditions and surrounding traffic at all times. The system is intended only as a support feature and does not reduce the responsibility of safe driving. Drivers should also take regular breaks during long trips to avoid fatigue.
The Subaru Solterra Lane Departure Alert system enhances driving safety by providing timely warnings and subtle steering assistance, helping the driver maintain proper lane position while remaining fully in control of the vehicle.
■ Operating conditions of each function
In the Subaru Solterra, these functions are designed to operate only when all required conditions are satisfied, ensuring reliable and accurate assistance during driving.
This function is operable when all of the following conditions are met:
- The Subaru Solterra is traveling at a speed of approximately 30 mph (50 km/h) or higher.
In certain situations, operation may begin at speeds around 25 mph (40 km/h) if nearby vehicles, motorcycles, bicycles, or pedestrians are detected along the lane.
- The system successfully recognizes lane markings or a defined course*. (If detection is possible on only one side, the Subaru Solterra will provide support only on that side.)
- The lane width is approximately 9.8 ft. (3 m) or greater, allowing sufficient space for accurate detection.
- The turn signal lever is not in use, except when the Subaru Solterra detects a vehicle in the direction indicated by the signal.
- The vehicle is not navigating sharp or complex curves.
- The Subaru Solterra is not undergoing strong acceleration or deceleration.
- The steering wheel is not being turned significantly, such as during an intentional lane change.
- The VSC (Vehicle Stability Control) and TRAC (Traction Control) systems are active and not disabled.
*: Boundary between the asphalt and grass, soil, etc., or structures, such as a curb, guardrail, etc.
■ Temporary cancelation of functions
If any of the above conditions are no longer met, the Subaru Solterra LDA functions may temporarily deactivate. Once all required conditions are restored, the system will automatically resume operation without driver intervention.
■ Operation of the lane departure alert function/lane departure prevention function
*: Boundary between the asphalt and grass, soil, etc., or structures, such as a curb, guardrail, etc.
■ Hands off steering wheel warning operation
In the Subaru Solterra, if the system detects that the driver is not maintaining proper contact with the steering wheel, a visual message and icon will appear, accompanied by an audible alert prompting the driver to take control.
Even if no warning is currently displayed, always keep both hands on the steering wheel when using Subaru Solterra driver assistance systems to ensure safe and stable operation.
Maintaining proper steering input helps the Subaru Solterra systems function more effectively and ensures a higher level of driving safety in all conditions.
As the frequency of steering assist interventions increases in the Subaru Solterra, the duration of the warning buzzer will also gradually extend. This is designed to ensure that the driver remains attentive and responsive to system prompts.
If the Subaru Solterra detects that the steering wheel has been actively operated, the warning buzzer may stop. However, in certain situations, the buzzer may continue sounding briefly even after driver input is detected, reinforcing the need for consistent steering control.
■ Break suggestion function
The Subaru Solterra break suggestion function operates when all of the following conditions are satisfied:
Depending on driving conditions, vehicle behavior, or road surface quality, the Subaru Solterra may not always activate this function even if fatigue-like driving patterns are present.

WARNING
■ Situations in which the system may not operate properly
In certain driving environments, the Subaru Solterra Lane Departure Alert system may not perform as expected, and unintended lane deviation may occur. Always remain alert and keep full control of the vehicle.
Displays and system operation
The Subaru Solterra provides clear visual indicators on the instrument panel to show the current status of the lane departure alert and steering assist functions.
These indicators help the driver understand when the Subaru Solterra LDA system is active, providing additional confidence and awareness during operation.
